Language is central to a student’s intellectual, social and emotional growth and must be seen as a key element in the curriculum. Our Language expectations are organized into four strands as outlined in the Ontario Language Curriculum: Reading, Writing, Oral Communication and Media Literacy.
The Language Arts curriculum is shaped by the ways in which reading, writing, speaking and listening interconnect. Our students love to communicate from a very early age and the school provides every opportunity for them to do so. Children learn to speak with confidence and to write with fluency.
Students also study Turkish from Grade 1 and French from Grade 4 at Nile Academy.
ESL Program: ESL courses at Nile Academy provide opportunities for students to develop facility in English in the four basic language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. In addition, students will gain knowledge of the environment necessary for successful integration into the school and community.
During the school day, ESL students receive a minimum of one ESL period or more depending upon their proficiency in English. Students who may need additional help in learning English will be tutored individually or in a small group.
