This year Nile Academy has raised the bar in Language Arts. Our grades 7&8 have begun the year by studying Shakespeare. This is has been made possible by making the text more accessible with the use of modern English along with the original text. Figuratively speaking, Shakespeare turns strugglers into scholars. The challenge of this study gives our students the opportunity to leap through the Ministry expectations of learning; to make meaning by analyzing more complex texts; and extending their understanding to pose and discuss questions of “author’s purpose” and analogy.
For grades 5&6, the students have been aggressively working on strategies that develop meaning from what is being read by explicit study of new vocabulary, using context, finding the main idea, visualizing, making inferences and finding organizational patterns present in texts.
