OFSAA Wrestling Championships

OFSAA is the second largest high school athletic association in North America, second only to the California Interscholastic Federation. There are 18 OFSAA member associations, and the TDCAA (which Nile belongs to) is one of them. OFSAA offers 21 sports, wrestling being the third largest recreation. OFSAA wrestling is the largest high school wrestling tournament in North America. There are 32 wrestlers in each weight class, with 16 male and 13 female categories, ranging from 84 pounds to 286 pounds.

From March 1st – 3rd the wrestling team travelled to Brampton, Ontario to compete at the championship tournament. There were 850 athletes in attendance, along with 250 coaches from approximately 220 schools. The tournament lasted 3 days in total. The first day centred around weigh-ins, while the remaining days were for competing.

Six Nile Academy student-athletes qualified for OFSAA wrestling this year. Berkay Oral placed 7th overall with 5 wins and 2 losses. Kemal Oz won 2 and lost 2, which placed him in the top 12. Nile Academy congratulates Mr. Kaya and the wrestling team on their hard earned success thus far!
